The Marshall Foundation and the Lexington and Rockbridge Chamber of Commerce are partnering to offer a “Chopped” style cook-off featuring three area chefs in competition for prizes and bragging rights as the winner of the first annual Victory Chef Cook-Off.
Each chef will be given a mystery basket of food items that were readily available in the US during World War II and will create an entrée using every item in the basket, including SPAM. In addition, there will be made available to the chefs a limited pantry of additional items. Chefs will be able to bring certain food items to supplement their dishes but will also be given a listing of prohibited foods – items that were NOT available during WWII.
SPAM and Coca-Cola giveaways, a victory garden display, a 1940s ‘compleat’ kitchen display, a silent auction featuring 4 numbered Norman Rockwell Coca-Cola prints, mystery appetizer contest, WWII era food objects and advertisement exhibit and more, will be available in the hall as the chefs work their magic.
