First Friday Summer Speaker Series: VA250
Join us for our First Friday's Speaker Series on Friday, July 11 where we kick-off our local Rockbridge VA250 Celebration, commemorating America's Revolutionary War, and the revolutionary experiences that have spanned two and half centuries of local and national history, since "The Spirit of '76."
Coffee and a light Breakfast will be served.
Sheryl Wagner is the Co-Chair of the Rockbridge - VA250 Advisory Committee. She also serves as the Executive Director of Lexington and the Rockbridge Area Tourism, where she leads efforts to promote the region's natural beauty, historic charm, and cultural assets. Sheryl graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a degree in Business and Economics and earned her Master's degree in Tourism Administration from The George Washington University. Recently, she completed a certificate program for the Virginia Women’s Municipal Leadership Institute at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. With over 28 years of experience in tourism and hospitality within the public sector, Sheryl focuses on destination marketing and strategic planning. Her leadership style emphasizes collaboration, sustainability, and enriching the visitor experience.
Eric Wilson is Co-Chair of the Rockbridge-VA250 Advisory Committee, Executive Director of the Rockbridge Historical Society, and a faculty member at Lexington City Schools. For over 15 years, he has produced cultural programs in history, the arts, and lifelong learning across Rockbridge and Virginia's museum community.
Educated at Brown, Harvard, and Cambridge (UK), Wilson has taught literature, Shakespeare, Women’s and African American Studies at Boston College and Washington & Lee. He also co-directed UVA’s Summer Enrichment Program and has taught Humanities for two decades in Virginia schools.
As a public historian, he has served as Director for History with the Virginia Association of Museums and helped found museums in Portsmouth and Lexington, VA.
